SpellForce: Conquest of Eo, an upcoming sequel in the real-time strategy and fantasy series, has just revealed that it will launch on February 3rd, 2023. It will be available on PC, although there hasn’t been any word on other platforms. Here is today’s new trailer from publisher THQ Nordic, featuring gameplay:
The SpellForce series may seem a little generic on the outside, with familiar fantasy imagery and settings. But the mechanics have always distinguished themselves as an exceptional combination of classic RTS and RPG elements. That’s been the selling point for some time, since it can be hard enough to create a successful game in either genre alone.
This blend resulted in an unusually wide range of mechanics for SpellForce, making the world feel more expansive and immersive. It’s been a reliable brand since the early thousands.
More recently, SpellForce 3 and its various expansions were received very well, so expectations should be pretty high for longtime fans. SpellForce: Conquest of Eo doesn’t necessarily look like it’ll revolutionize the series, let alone the genre, but today’s trailer does hint that it will deliver more of the same quality.
It looks just as dense as ever, including even more worldbuilding. The graphics look pretty, at least for the budget, and there seem to be plenty of interesting environments.
When SpellForce: Conquest of Eo was originally announced in June 2022, the corresponding trailer was quite cinematic and shared a lot of the lore. That probably did more to attract the uninitiated than today’s trailer. Since the game launches next week, the devs likely won’t reveal much more, aside from an obligatory launch trailer on the day. But longtime fans will surely be invested at launch.
