Itasca, Ill. – PETA supporters wearing latex mouse masks and brandishing signs proclaiming, “Starved, Killed, and Dissected,” will gather outside the U.S. headquarters of Japanese conglomerate Ajinomoto Co. Inc.—the world’s largest manufacturer of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and owner of packaged frozen-food brands Tai Pei, Ling Ling, and José Olé—ahead of a chef presentation on Monday to protest the company’s deadly testing on mice, dogs, pigs, and other animals.

When:    Monday, January 9, 4 p.m.

Where:    250 E. Devon Ave., Itasca

“Ajinomoto tortures sensitive mice and thousands of other animals who feel pain just as we do in order to make dubious human health claims for marketing foods and beverages,” says PETA Vice President Shalin Gala. “PETA is calling on Ajinomoto to start fresh in the new year by joining dozens of other global food giants that have ended animal tests and switched to superior, non-animal research.”

Ajinomoto experimenters have compelled mice to fight each other, cut their nerves, and injected them with toxic drugs; cut open dogs’ stomachs, starved them, and fed them MSG; inserted tubes into day-old piglets’ arteries and starved them; and electroshocked rats, among other pointless procedures.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
