New episodes of Sonic Prime will arrive on Netflix in July

The second batch of Sonic Prime episodes is set to arrive on Netflix in July.

A tweet posted on the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account on Wednesday read: “Ready to re-enter the Shatterverse? Sonic Prime returns on July 13th.”

The first eight episodes of the show arrived on Netflix on December 15, 2022.

It’s not clear how many more episodes will be added in July, but given that animation studio WildBrain previously stated that the show was 24 episodes long it will likely be either another eight episodes, or all the remaining 16.

Sonic Prime – Official Trailer

Sonic Prime sees Sonic accidentally creating the Shatterverse, a multiverse of alternate dimensions populated by different versions of Sonic’s friends.

The Netflix show isn’t the only Sonic TV series currently active. A live-action Knuckles series is currently in development at Paramount, which will be a spin-off of the studio’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

Paramount’s official plot synopsis says the series, which takes place between the Sonic 2 and 3 movies and sees Idris Elbra reprising his role as Knuckles, will follow the echidna as he trains police officer Wade Whipple as his protégé.

Sega recently said it’s interested in the possibility of adapting other IPs for the big screen, following the success of the Sonic movies.

“We would like to take on challenges outside of the Sonic IP should the opportunity arise,” Sega said in a Q&A session following the publication of the company’s full-year earnings in April.

“If we can match the timing of game launches to the release of movies, it would be extremely effective from a marketing perspective and there are also significant benefits, such as increasing awareness of our IP and increasing the number of touch points for customers, as we achieved with the Sonic movie.”

During the same session, the company also indicated that it could be the next publisher to start charging $70 for some of its games.
