Part 9 will introduce Joseph Joester’s descendants as the new protagonists.
After a long break, the ninth part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, The JOJOLands, will begin its serialization again on February 17th, 2023. At the same time, Shueisha will publish it in the March 2023 issue of its Ultra Jump magazine. The news was officially announced in the JoJo 2022 Winter magazine.
Part 8 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, titled JoJolion, started its serialization in 2011 and ran until 2021, with 27 volumes in total. Right after JoJolion came to an end officially, the author of the series, Hirohiko Araki, left a comment in the Ultra Jump issue, confirming Part 9 of the series. Hirohiko Araki also confirmed the title of the series, “JOJOLands,” at the same time. But despite having an early announcement, the release date was not confirmed, making it the longest hiatus yet for the series.
Hirohiko has not divulged much information regarding the upcoming part, but we know that JOJOLands will take place in the same continuity as the seventh part, Steel Ball Run, and the eighth part of the series, JoJoLion. In an interview with Hirohiko Araki, that was released in the 2023 issue of Kono Mystery ga Sugoi, also known as This Mystery is Excellent, he stated that the upcoming part would bring Joseph Joestar’s descendants as the main protagonist of the series. Hirohiko further said that Joseph Joestar appeared at the end of part 8, which hinted that the upcoming story would be about his descendants.
The anime adaptation of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 3 was released recently on Netflix on December 1st, 2022. It was the third and final part of Stone Ocean, consisting of 14 episodes in total. So while the fans are likely still digging into the new release, it was the best time to announce part 9.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure by Hirohiko Araki is one of the best-known shonen anime series, which started its serialization in Shueisha in 1987 and still entertaining fans with its new parts. The story revolves around the Joester family, who are blessed with incredible psychic powers and intense strength. Each part takes us on the adventures of different members of the family.
