Netflix’s newest series, “XO, Kitty,” follows Kitty Song Covey — aka Lara Jean’s little sister from “To All the Boys I Loved Before” — as she searches for love and the truth about her mom’s past at the Korean Independent School of Seoul — aka KISS. But will the series come back for more romantic chaos in season two? Here’s what we know.
Will “XO, Kitty” Get a Season 2?
There’s no official word yet on a second season of “XO, Kitty,” though if it does happen, we can easily imagine where it would go. Kitty is technically expelled from KISS at the end of the season, but in the airport we see Yuri (Gia Kim) calling her mom Principal Jina (Yunjin Kim) to get Kitty reinstated. She points out none of the boys Kitty was illicitly living with were punished, so why should she be expelled? If Kitty returns to KISS, she’ll have to try to keep her grades up while also balancing her social life.
There are also lots of other plots left to explore, like Kitty’s burgeoning queerness, Yuri’s relationship with Juliana (Regan Aliya) now that she’s back at KISS, and some unexplained questions about Kitty’s mom’s time in Korea as a teen. Plus in the final moments of the season, Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee) admits he has feelings for Kitty, sending her for a loop.
Will the Writers Strike Affect “XO, Kitty” Season 2?
Because of the ongoing writers strike, even if Netflix renews “XO, Kitty” right now, the team of writers wouldn’t be able to start working on scripts until the strike is over. Series creator Jenny Han didn’t attend the show’s premiere this May because of the strike, and she explained that to fans in an Instagram video posted May 11. “This moment is bigger than me,” she said in part, “and what’s at stake if the future of all writers and our ability to keep telling stories. And we are asking for fair compensation.” Since Han is not promoting the series, she has not commented on the possibility of a second season.
“XO, Kitty” season one is streaming now on Netflix.
