What Happened Previously On Hell’s Paradise?
The episode began with a flashback of young Tenza, living a wasted life and engaging in a fight with Samurai after they insulted him. However, Yamada Asaemon Shion intervened, halting Tenza’s actions. In the present, Tenza and Nurugai searched for a suitable current along the coast but encountered a Tensen.
They questioned their involvement in recent events and started attacking Tenza and Nurugai. Filled with fear, Tenza and Nurugai attempted to escape but were confronted by Tensen. Despite their efforts, the Tensen proved formidable until Shion appeared and threw a sword, beheading the Tensen. As they fled, Nurugai observed Shion’s remarkable ability to navigate the woods despite his blindness, relying on his senses of smell and sound.
As Tenza introduced Nurugai to Shion, his master reprimanded him for his earlier improper swordsmanship. Shion pointed his sword at Nurugai and questioned Tenza’s decision to protect a criminal. Tenza defended Nurugai’s innocence, but Shion emphasized that they, as Yamada Asaemon, must follow the law.
After a heartfelt discussion, Shion decided to trust Tenza. Suddenly, the Tensen appeared, and Shion saved Tenza and Nurugai from Tensen’s attack but sustained a throat wound. Tenza tried to fight back, but the Tensen effortlessly evaded his strikes. With Shion injured, Tenza’s attempt to use a powerful technique failed, and Tensen inflicted severe injuries on Tenza.
In a flashback, we saw Tenza’s training with Shion as the former contemplated quitting, but he was challenged to land a single blow on Shion before he could leave. Later, Tenza broke his promise to Shion and intended to leave the dojo, but he encountered Eizen, who took him to a graveyard and revealed the tragic story of Tesshin, Shion’s former student.
Inspired by the story, Tenza chose to honor his promise and returned to the dojo. Meanwhile, in the present, Tenza sacrificed himself to protect Nurugai and Shion from the relentless attacks of the Tensen. As Tenza passed away, Shion and Nurugai mourned his loss but vowed to seek revenge on the monster, determined not to let Tenza’s sacrifice be in vain.
