Forza Horizon vets form new studio Maverick Games

Former Playground Games developers have created a brand new studio in Maverick Games.

This is a brand new triple-A venture based in Leamington Spa. It’s being led by nine-year Playground vet Mike Brown (pictured, far right), who is the developer’s creative director and studio head. Harinder Sangha (pictured, right) holds the COO role having previously been Sumo Leamington’s co-studio head, while Exec producer Tom Butcher, CTO Matt Craven, content director Gareth Harwood and audio director Frasher Strachan join from Playground.

Sharkmob London alum Ben Penrose has been hired as art director, while Elly Marshall comes on board as UX/UI director from EA.

Maverick has attracted “significant seed funding” and is working on a brand new title.

“Our goal is for Maverick Games to be a studio people will love,” Brown said.

“For players, we’re already at work on an exciting ultra-high quality title, and for developers, we’re building a home where everyone is encouraged to take risks, be curious, be creative, be innovative, be themselves, and above all – be a Maverick.”
