Apple Arcade had quite a good 2022. The gaming subscription service saw the addition of over 50 new games and 300+ updates. 2023 aims to provide an even better experience for subscribers as lots of new titles are added. While January will not see the addition of any App Store Greats, four new Arcade Originals join the roster.
Episode XOXO (January 6th)
Launching this Friday is the first game of the year, Episode XOXO, an interactive storytelling adventure which sees players forge their own destiny. Players will experience a number of themes such as love, romance, adventure, and drama in these tales. At launch, five stories will be available – Little Star, The Royal Bachelor, No Time For Love, The Secret He Keeps, and Road To Wonderland.
Illustrated (January 13th)
This one is for all puzzlers out there. Illustrated combines jigsaws and word puzzles into a single game, where each puzzle builds on a popular artist’s story, like Philip Sue, Francisco Fonseca, and Jungsuk Lee. As players place the correct piece onto the board, the illustration is slowly revealed to showcase the masterpiece behind it.
Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! (January 20th)
Coming straight from the Nintendo 3DS and creators of the Pokémon RPG series is a mashup of solitaire and horse racing. This fast-paced title sees players race their horses to victory by quickly clearing the cards in sequential succession. From collecting cute horses to participating in the online leaderboards, players can do it all.
Squiggle Drop (January 27th)
The final game of January is a creative physics-based puzzle. Similar to titles like Cut the Rope and Where’s My Water, Squiggle Drop tasks players with clearing obstacles by drawing shapes. It will feature over 100 unique levels with loads of rewards like cosmetics and upgrades to unlock.
